The proposed project aims to establish international collaboration in the field of materials science and technology between the National Metals and Materials Technology Center in Thailand and the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in Bangladesh. The collaboration will not be limited to only research co-operation on two specific topics on ceramic insulator and dielectric material, but will also include more general aspects such as staff-student exchanges, industrial problem solving and lectures/workshop on the related topics. Research activities in the project are divided into 2 programs. Program 1: Effect of composition on the property of high tension ceramic insulator Program 2: Dielectric and microstructural characterisation of BaTiO3-based dielectric material In the first program, the aims are to establish a suitable technique for refining local clay which is used in the production of high tension ceramic insulator and to improve the properties of ceramic insulator by using suitable composition and alloy additions. The proposed research in the second program aims to find a suitable composition of BaTiO3 based dielectric material with lower sintering temperature and to study the effect of second phase on the dielectric property. MTEC possesses expertise in various fields, including high tension ceramic insulator and materials characterisation of electroceramics materials which are relevant to the programs described above. Therefore, MTEC technical assistance will facilitate the implementation of both programs and ensure the achievement of the projectís goals and objectives. At the end of the proposed collaborated project, it is expected to obtain joint research publications through joint co-operation of scientific research and staff exchanges. An appropriate industrial problem, which truly benefit ceramic insulator industry in Bangladesh, will be solved. Moreover, knowledge and technology disseminated could be applied to the Thai industry with relevant problems. Impact of the project will be enormous. The project will not only contribute to the development of related science and technology within Bangladesh, but also lead towards sustainable development through local expertise in this area. Moreover, the program will have a long-term impact on enhancing MTEC expertise on the related fields. The experience and expertise gained from this project will be extremely valuable to the Thai industry.
